Aled Jones: “You are a god”

‘absolutely outstanding’, ‘a very serious and learned lecturer’, ‘absolutely the best lecturer of the many fine lecturers I’ve experienced on my many MRT experiences’, ‘an excellent speaker with wide ranging knowledge’ – feedback from tour clients

Sandy is one of the UK’s most authoritative broadcasters in the field of classical music. His broadcasts, interviews, and lectures are all underpinned by the practical understanding that comes from his busy life as a practising musician.

He has led lecture trips to the Malta Baroque Festival, La Scala Milan, the Schwetzingen Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, and to three operas at the Arena di Verona. He is a regular presenter of music programmes on RTÉ Lyric FM.

An extended spell with BBC Radio 3, starting in 1994 and continuing till 2007, saw him firmly established as one of the network’s most familiar presenters, admired by many classical music lovers, with the exception of the late Sir Gerald Kaufman. His many credits include the flagship breakfast programme Morning on 3, live Proms, concerts from the Edinburgh International Festival, as well as countless studio broadcasts and interviews with classical music’s top artists. He enjoys a close ongoing relationship with RTÉ Lyric FM, and has also worked for RTÉ’s Radio 1, Wigmore Hall, Linn Records, Intermusica, and the City of London Festival. He is an experienced reciter of William Walton’s Facade, a piece he has also conducted.  As of January 2017, Sandy is an accredited NADFAS lecturer.

Invited to appear at the TEDx conference at St Donat’s Arts Centre in Wales, Sandy brought his double bass along and explored music and creativity in an interactive talk entitled “Embrace Mistakes.” He has also lectured and hosted events for many leading music organisations including Wigmore Hall, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the London Jazz Festival.

Onscreen, Sandy has hosted live and recorded webcasts for Russia Today, Plushmusic and Wigmore Hall; he speaks fluent French and German. As a lecturer for ACE Cultural Tours, Martin Randall Travel and Kirker, he has taken tour groups to many European festivals; his 2011 Bachfest tour earned a 100% approval rating from Martin Randall Travel clients.
